Ryan McGovern, PhD, ATC

Ryan McGovern, PhD, ATC currently serves as the Program Manager for Sports Medicine Research with Texas Health Physicians Group and is the Clinical Director of Research at the Texas Health Center for the Athlete’s Hip located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Ryan is a graduate of James Madison University’s Athletic Training Program, the University of Georgia’s Exercise Science Program, and received his PhD in Rehabilitation Science from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to his scholarly career he served as a clinical athletic trainer at the high school, collegiate and professional level. Most recently he spent 5 years as an athletic trainer with the University of Georgia football team.

Ryan specializes in clinical and surgical outcomes research with a specific interest in pre-arthritic hip pain and hip preservation surgery. He has published several research articles and book chapters on the topics of emergency medicine and athletic training, musculoskeletal anatomy, functional performance testing, rehabilitation interventions and clinical and surgical outcomes. For his clinical research efforts, he was awarded the Physiotherapy Award for Excellence in Clinical Research at the 2019 International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) Annual Meeting in Madrid, Spain.
